ART:
For my art portion of project one it was all focused on the question do video games cause violence? For this I had to research the question and come to an answer myself before I could start working. I came to a variety of conclusions but I ended on the idea that video games can cause violence in a very small percentage of people who may have a predisposition to violence. Do I think video games are going to make all kids violent? No. But video games have been proven to make children more hostile in a way. The reason that the kids are more hostile is not because of the violence in the video games but because of the competitiveness of the game, and the child probably lost the game and is angry. This idea of competitiveness is what drives kids to play video games. That was my inspiration for my english and social studies portion of my project which is how to gamify a classroom. My final idea and product for art was to make a series of images on photoshop that show people and kids alike that are normally playing your average video games playing out an actual mass shooting that has happened. This is meant to show that some people don't know the difference between actual reality and video game reality, hence the Virtual reality headsets that two of the images have. Before this I never used photoshop and I feel that after messing around with it and teaching myself I did a pretty good job with minor errors.
English / Social Studies:
For both English and social studies I made a infographic explaining how a teacher could gamify their classroom. This idea of gamification was something I knew very little about prior to researching this project. I mainly looked at ways to gamify a classroom effectively along with the effects that gamification has on the brain. I got the idea to make this infographic after a meeting where I struggled to figure out how I could make my project the best it could be. With some help from Mr. Ward he gave me the idea to look into gamification and my project took off from there. This infographic is mainly for elementary level classes and is supposed to help teachers who want to know more about gamification and how they could get started with gamifying their classroom. Overall I was very pleased with this project and how it came out looking.
